Frequently Asked Questions

Is it okay to bring dogs?

We welcome dogs of well-behaved owners! The houses are in 2 acres of grounds, mostly rough grass and wildflower meadows. There are sheep and a few cows in the adjacent fields. There is a dog deposit of £100 refundable if all is okay following your stay.

Is there a cinema on the island?

Occasionally there is a mobile cinema which shows on Islay. For a timetable head to https://www.screenmachine.co.uk/

Are towels and bed linen included?

All towels and bedding are provided for you except beach towels. We request that our towels are not taken to the beach as sand stains are so difficult to get out of white towels!

How far is it to the shops and public transport?

We are a mile and a half from Bridgend Store, Post Office and petrol station, in the centre of the island. This is also about 10 minutes drive from Bowmore, the capital, where there are more shops.

It is about 20-25 minutes’ drive to Port Ellen, roughly 20 minutes to Port Askaig for the Ferries and about 20 minutes to the Airport at Glenegedale.

The bus stops at Bridgend just by Bridgend Stores, a mile and a half walk from Ballitarsin.

How can I find out about what’s going on on the island?

Buy a copy of the bi-weekly newspaper - The Ileach - available in most shops on the Island. It has all the events listed and lots more information about places to visit. For more info and digital subscriptions visit: http://www.ileach.co.uk/
